Naba Ballygunge Mahavidyalaya, Kolkata formerly known as Charuchandra Evening College, was eastablished in 1985 and the institution has been renamed as Naba Ballygunge Mahavidyalaya (New Ballygunge College) with effect from 2005. College is a co-educational with Commerce and Arts streams. Efforts are being made to introduce Vocational Stream. Honours courses in several subjects of both Arts and Commerce are taught in this three year degree college. With growing popularity, Naba Ballygunge Mahavidyalaya began to win laurels after laurels in the field of cultural activities, games and sports and for academic performance. Naba Ballygunge Mahavidyalaya has a long tale to tell. It has traveled a long way and then taken the present shape and form. The 15th of July, 1985 is a red-letter day in the annals of educational activities in South Kolkata. It was on that date that the college saw the light of day, steering through a lot of impediments.

Higher education is an educational level that follows the completion of a secondary level school education. Higher education normally includes undergraduate and postgraduate education. Higher education is very important for self-improvement as well as for developing the national economy. The scope of employment of higher educated people is higher than that of less educated workers and their wage premium will also at the same time be higher. Considering the requirement of the locality as well as better service to the nation our college started its journey in the year 1985 with the name of Charuchandra Evening College with two streams-Arts and Commerce. In the year 2013-14 our college takes up the new challenge to introduce P.G. Courses in Bengali and Commerce to offer more facility of higher education to the future generation. All the effort of the college authority will be successful only if the young people make use of the opportunity of higher education and obey the rules and regulations of the University of Calcutta, our parent institution and be well-established in society after the successful completion of the academic courses of the college.
