Looking back to remote past, Maharani Kasiswari College has connection with the Cossimbazar Raj Family of Murshidabad. This Royal Family of Bengal has a great history of contribution towards promotion of education in the State. Starting from Krishna Kanta Nandy — son to grandson of Kali Nath Nandy, founder of Cossimbazar Raj Family, upto Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandy — all believed and correctly realized that India was to be 'Born through Education'.

The building at 20, Ramkanto Bose Street, Kolkata-3, was an ancestral property of Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandy. His son, Hon'ble Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandy donated the premises for establishment of a college at North Kolkata. The mission was made possible due to the initiative of some spirited personalities of that time. From 15th July, 1941, the college started and was named as Maharaja Manindra Chandra College.

Initially, the 20 R. B. Street building was a two-storied house where Manindra Nandy was born on 29th May, 1860 and his wedding took place when he was fifteen. He was married to Maharani Kasiswari of Khirgram, Burdwan, when the bride was seven. In 1897, after getting succession of Cossimbazar Estate, Maharaja Manindra Chandra left Kolkata. The building was first used as a Students' Home, then turned into an Ayurvedic Vidyalaya and ultimately from 1941, it turned into Manindra Chandra College.

Within few years of its establishment, from 1st October, 1947, a morning section of the college was opened to meet the expectations of girl students, aspiring for higher education — but unable to join day classes. In 1964, according to the direction of U.G.C., Manindra Chandra College was split up into three independent Units — Morning, Day & Evening — with separate affiliation and administration. The Morning Section — meant exclusively for Girl students, started functioning from 2nd December, 1964 and was named as Maharani Kasiswari College, to perpetuate the memory of the Late Maharani. It was thus that Maharani Kasiswari College started its journey with the aim of advancement of female education and career building.

Other than the text books and reference books related to syllabus, the library has been enriched with books and journals on various areas of Literature, Science, Commercial, Economic and Social applications and on technological progress of the world. A complete human being with social responsibilities is grown up under counselling by the parents, the teachers and books along with self study. It is our duty to train the children to look at circumstances rationally, take decision independently, distinguish between good and bad and have moral supportto everything positive for the welfare of the society and the country.

We have a well equipped computer centre with efficient trainers for various diploma and certificate courses in computer helpful to secure good jobs. We have certificate course on "Pre Primary Teachers' Training" for boys and girls both. It is high time to become concious about the starting of education in nursery level. Keeping that in mind the college is acting as a study centre for "Pre Primary Teachers' Training".
