Kidderpore College, a government-aided co-educational college, was founded in the year 1966 by the erstwhile Rector of Kidderpore Academy Sri Jitendranath Bandyopadhyay. Kidderpore Academy is a school adjacent to the present college building. His vision was to open up the doors of higher education to the wards of the poor residents of the locality. He worked hard to apprise the local people. This college is affiliated to the University of Calcutta since its inception. Situated in a part of the city which people from different linguistic and religious communities inhabit, the college typically represents the rich variety of our country. Along with the Bengali speaking students, there are students who speak Hindi, Urdu, Nepali and Oriya. This area occupies a special position in the cultural map of Kolkata. Kidderpore was residence to three notable nineteenth century Bengali poets — Michael Madhusudan Dutta, Hemchandra Bandyopadhyay and Rangalal Bandyopadhyay.

Principal's Desk

My Dear Students,

Kidderpore College was established in the year 1966, to facilitate higher education in the locality and to make its students self sufficient, socially conscious and academically sound citizens. It was the brain work of Late Jitendra Nath Banerjee.

The College has 16 departments both Honours and General courses. This year we have planned to open up two Honours courses in Journalism and Geography. We are however constrained due to infrastructural limitations and despite our best intentions we find ourselves unable to start a B.Sc programme in science subjects.

We try to fully utilize the available resources by accommodating a wide range of social , cultural and educational programmes from time to time. We have introduced computer training courses for the benefit of the students. Kidderpore College in collaboration with Netaji Shubhash Open University (NSOU) also offers distance learning programmes. The NCC units and N.S.S unit of Kidderpore College have organized many social awareness programmes and Blood Donation camp to cater the needs of society.

It is heartening to know that despite many limitations our students in the Hindi, Urdu and Commerce sections perform reasonably well in the university examinations. Some students in the afore-mentioned discipline have attained First Class results. Ours students have achieved distinguished reputation in the field of spots and cultural activities too. The students of our college have also participated in and won many medals in inter-college events like Hindi Mela, Drama Festival and youth Parliament.

We are blessed with a learned group of dedicated Faculty members. The supporting staffs, an integral part of the administrative machinery, participate with greater efficiency for the overall development of our Institution. My biggest asset is my beloved students who are always ready for any sort of cooperation. As principal of the College, I also appreciate guidance of our Govering Body.

The dream of 1966 has crossed 49 long years, we are on the verge of Golden Jubilee year (2016). This year we are planning to undertake several projects to deliver the academic responsibility to the society.. Our commitment is for the upliftment of society. Our vision is to empowering society with value based education. Hence it is a joint venture where co-operation from all concerns is highly solicited.
