In 1968, the school was started in a small way and formally founded in November, 1970 by Late Dr. (Mrs.) Kamala Ghosh in a rented premise in Jodhpur Park. Mrs. Kamala Ghosh was a doctorate from Sheffield’s, U.K. While she was in abroad, a little child lovingly called her Auntie Edith. She named the school Auntie Edith’s School in memory of that little girl. It began with a few students and a group of committed teachers. Later it was renamed in memory of her Late husband Mr. Ajit Kumar Ghosh who was the Founder Secretary of the school. A co-educational English Medium Kindergarten and Primary School which grew from strength to strength into a Junior High and then a High School. In 1999, it became a Higher Secondary School. It sent out its first School Final batch in 1977. The success rate was 100% and no one got below Second Division. In the same year, the School was shifted to its own building in the present premises. It is now a large family comprising more than 2000 students, 55 teachers and 27 non teaching staff members. The bonding between staff and students are very informal and personal excellence is the buzzword.

EVERY STRING of a guitar needs to be tuned to produce melody. A single string can break the harmony. At A. K. Ghosh Memorial School, the students, the staff and the management work in perfect tune.

The sincerity and dedication of the staff, unquestioned obedience of the pupils and school administration’s guidance have helped live up to the aspirations of the school.

A child’s mind is like a lump of clay; you can mould it the way you like.
Being the principal of the kindergarten and the primary section, I take care of students of 2 and 11 years, an age when we need to implant in them the qualities of a complete individual.

We try to train children not only to be smart and outgoing, but also grow up to be progressive and righteous individuals.

Nowadays most schools burden children with an overdose of work. Here, we try to reduce the workload with limited home assignments.

For the all round development of their personality, we lay emphasis on extra-curricular activities including sports, quiz and exhibitions.
Our school also ensures computer literacy for students from the age of two. Though it’s too early for us to teach them the functions, it helps them to get familiar with the basics.

Teachers are also re-oriented from time to time in order to keep pace with the latest teaching methods. We send teachers to various workshops and programmes conducted by educational experts of the city.

Our free-school section held after sundown, is an integral part of the main school. Underprivileged children are provided with books, stationery, uniforms and food and get the same attention and facilities as students in the main section.
