In order to commemorate the Birth centenary (2000AD) of Dr. Syamaprasad
Mukherjee,Ex-ViceChancellor,C.U. SIAE(Syamaprasad Institute Of Advanced Education)
has been initiated and floated by distinguished social elites, academicians, industry
stalwarts
in assistance with Syamaprasad College, Kolkata, for augmentation of Technological
Education and allied social services in the state of West Bengal. The SIET
(Syamaprasad Institute of Education and Training) had started with the recognition
and approval from NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) and affiliation from
Calcutta University since 2007-08 sessions. The institute came into existence with its
auspicious inauguration on August 9, 2007.
We had a ‘dream’, a dream driven by a collective reflection and shared vision. To put it straight, it was a dream to establish a teacher education institution with a difference to produce prospective teachers with a cutting-edge advantage. These teachers, equipped with requisite pedagogical and professional commitment would, in turn, build world-class human capital. And, our rock-solid conviction is that it is teachers and teachers alone, who matter and matter most. Given the enabling condition, they can transform schools anywhere and anytime. We, teacher, translated the dream into a robust reality: establishment of Syamaprasad Institute of education and training(SIET), under the auspices of the Syamaprasad Institute of advanced education(SIAE), a non-profit society created to commemorate the birth centenary of Dr. Syamaprasad Mookherjee, avisionary. The SIET started functioning, with NCTE’s recognition and affiliation accorded by the University of Calcutta, with effect from August 9, 2007. All of us- the management, the faculty and the student- have an unwavering commitment to quality. We strongly subscribe to M.Scott peck’s “delayed gratification”: ‘one hour of pain followed by six hours of pleasure is preferable to one hour of pleasure followed by six hours of pain’. All great educational institutions have, almost without exception, a similar beginning leading to mellow fruitfulness. Quality teacher education, for us, is not a destination; it is a never-ending journey. Together, we can make this nascent temple of learning a center of excellence with an incredible saga of excellence and achievement. I hope and believe, the only ‘mantra’ of making this Institute great is working together (management, faculty, students and civil society) with a unified vision and uncompromising mission. Let the immortal lines of Robert Frost inspire us:
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep
And miles to go before I sleep."
