Previously the original name of ‘Subhash Pathagar’ was ‘EDWARD LIBRARY’. In the year 1910 it was established with great efforts and earnest co-operation of some learned men of the locality and a few employees of Falakata ‘Tahasil Office’ in a unused wooden structure of British Govt.

In the year of 1946, the above library was re-named ‘Subhash Pathagar’ and it was activated to give services to the users in full swing.

In 1957 the library obtained sponsorship under the scheme of development of library service in West Bengal.

In 1987 the library was upgraded as a town library by the directorate of library service, West Bengal.

The present building (Ground Floor) was built in 2006 with the donation and financial assistance of the local people. First floor was built in 2008-2009 with the grant of RRRLF and assistance of B.C.W. Dept. West Bengal.
