Shibpur Dinobundhoo Institution (College) is one of the pioneer colleges embracing a vast hinterland of urban and semi-urban areas of Howrah District. Established in 1948, the college has consolidated its position as one of the leading institutions of the district, imparting undergraduate learning in diverse areas of Humanities, Social Sciences, Bio and Pure Sciences and Commerce. The College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council). From the academic session 2009-2010, the college is proud to have introduced Post Graduate Course in Commerce (M.Com) offered by the University of Calcutta.

Swami Vivekananda said, education is the manifestation of prfection already in men. Physical, mental and spiritual development is necessary to obtain perfection of mind. Knowledge liberates us in true sense.

We bear the legacy of selfless service to our students and society at large. Our mission is to inculate free and fair environment and create level playing field for all our Students, Professor, Non-teaching staff and other concerned persons.

This year, college has undertaken massive developemnt work un der Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). Lift is under construction. Science laboratories, Boys' and Girls' common room,k exterior paint of college building, college entrance renovations have been made by RUSA fund.

Environmental justice needs to be restored in view of global warming, water crisis and object poverty. We must march toward sustainable development to minimize pollut5ion and wastage and maximize conservation and distribution of growth potential equitably.

APJ Abdul Kalam said, Dream is not that you see in sleep, Dream is something that does not let you sleep. Dream Dream and Dream.

Admission Info

1. A Candidate may be admitted to the first year B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.(Hons/General) courses of studies on passing H.S(10+2) Examination conducted by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or an equivalent examination conducted by other state Board/Council provided he/she has also passed English having full marks of not being less than 100.

2. Candidates seeking admission to all Hons. Courses must have following criteria provided by C.U :
    i. 50% in aggregate * and 45% in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
Or
    ii. 55% in the subject or related subject at the previous qualifying examination.
Or
    iii. 50% in aggregate * when the candidate has not studied the subject in his/her previous qualifying examination.
