Serampore Girls’ College was established in 6th June, 1981, by a group of visionaries who stood for the propagation of female education in this part of our sub-divisional town. In 1983 the first batch of students was sent for their Graduation Examination and since then the college has maintained its steady journey with an average of 1800-2000 students on its roll per year. Affiliated to the University of Calcutta and recognized by the Government of West Bengal and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, our institution is now identified as a prime college by the local people, having affiliation to CU at the degree level in 09 Honours and 16 General subjects.
Immediately after the accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the 1st cycle in 2007, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) was formed and started functioning steadily. In 2015, the college has been successfully re-accredited by NAAC at ‘B’ Grade. Presently we are looking forward to further improving the quality of the institution by using NAAC framework and with the support of Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
“It is not possible for a bird to fly with only one wing”, felt Swami Vivekananda. He believed that society cannot progress depending on men alone. It has to harness female power also. Our government also believes that the holistic development of a country must require women’s empowerment and for that government has taken different policies to incentivise women in pursuing higher education.
The mission of our college is to motivate students to be self- reliant in future with human principles and strong sense of responsibility towards society. Our untiring effort to uphold academic standards by imparting higher education of good quality helps the students march forward towards women’s empowerment.
Our college provides a peaceful academic environment, ideal for pursuit of studies. The students are placed under direct supervision and care of dedicated teachers. They receive an all round education in an atmosphere of peace, discipline and morality. Here teachers are totally committed to motivate the students to do their best in their chosen fields. Parent –teachers meetings are held regularly to let the parents know about the progress of their wards. The college also organizes departmental quiz, workshops ,seminars, educational tours on regular basis. Students are also engaged in different extra-curricular activities like cultural programmes, sports, community services through NSS and NCC.
I wholeheartedly look forward to welcome the new students of this academic year.
