The library was established in 1966 by United Athletic Club. Then it was used only for recreation. Gradually it started to serve as a social & academic Institution and information centre. In 1981, it was sponsored as a Town Library by the West Bengal Govt. Now it performs as a career guidance centre, Information centre and reference centre .
