Suri Vidyasagar College, named after the famous social reformer, litterateur and activist in the field of women empowerment, Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, has stepped into 76 years of its eventful and glorious existence bearing all the storms and buffets throughout since its inception as a wing of Vidyasagar College, Kolkata in 1942. It achieved the dignified status of a Degree College in the name ‘Suri Vidyasagar College’ in 1948 under the affiliation to Calcutta University. The institute is affiliated to the University of Burdwan since 1960 and now a constituent college. I am Proud and honoured to be the Principal of the College whose illustrious alumnus is the Pride of Bengal, Honourable Shri Pranab Kumar Mukhopadhyay, the President of the Republic of India. Since its inception Suri Vidyasagar College has committed itself to the goal of imparting higher education, ensuring quality education and providing research and extra-curricular activities in the best possible manner in order to spread the benefit of higher education in a location which is relatively backward but which has a glorious history. Our N.S.S. and N.C.C. wings are playing commendable role in social reforms and developing personality. The college is proud of its eco-friendly campus which houses twenty two departments teaching traditional and modern subjects, digital classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, well-equipped gymnasium, language laboratory, study centers of distance education and open university, the playground, the residential accommodation for both teaching and administrative staff, post office and a bank etc. The library of the College is well furnished with about fifty five thousand books, journals, reprographic machines etc. and is moving fast for complete digitization of its resources. At the end of 2016, our institute has been re-accredited by NAAC with the grade B++ which is the best grade to any institute in the district of Birbhum. I am really proud of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members, motivated students, research scholars and adequately equipped supporting and efficient administrative staff in order to absorb the forces of modernization and globalization in the field of higher education. I express my sincere thanks and regards to the selfless devotion of the founder and other outstanding contributors with which it has now achieved prominence among the students a yearning for higher learning. At the end, I welcome you all to the institute with belief that the institute will really be an institute of national importance in near future.
