It is one of the most reputed and the oldest schools in Salt Lake. The school started from the academic year of 1979. The Govt. Of West Bengal in consideration of the need of multilingual population of Salt Lake City, sponsored Salt Lake School(Eng.Medium).

On 1st September 1981, the management of the school was handed over to Salt Lake School (Eng. Medium) Society, constituted guardians, teachers, and staff of the school.

The school is managed by an Executive Council. Students are prepared for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (I.C.S.E) and Indian School Certificate Examination (I.S.C) under the Council for The Indian School Certificate Examinations.

The school has classes from pre-primary (4+) level to class XII. The first batch of students appeared for the I.C.S.E exam from this school in March 1987 and for the I.S.C Exam in 1991. The school continues to be under the general supervision and guidance of the Deputy Director of School Education, (Anglo-Indian), Government of West Bengal.

Our chief aspiration is not to gift to the world animate knowledge banks, but complete human beings who will work whole heartedly for peaceful and harmonious co-existence of man and nature along with achieving material and spiritual goals in life.We believe that, to build ideal citizens for modern India, we must imbibe in our students sound moral values: the virtues of tolerance, honesty,sincerity, faith in goodness, diligence, courage, foresight, fortitude, fellow feeling, simple living high thinking and pragmatism and adopt measures to develop a strong body and the best manifestation of their inherent talents. Keeping the above goal in mind our school curriculum is an example of perfect match of academic and co-curricular activities.

Salt Lake School (Eng.Med.) is the school that cares. It has always tried to live up to the ideals of Duty, Reverence, Knowledge. The students and the teachers have tried to implement them in their own little ways through school activities and also in their personal lives.

It gives me immense satisfaction & pleasure to state that Salt Lake School has attained heights which many other schools have not, even being a relatively new school. Within a span of about thirty years we have achieved the epitome of success. Our students
have excelled not only in academics but they have left their mark in quiz competitions, sports, debates, acting, modeling, dancing, singing and in many other fields. Education today is no longer confined to the four walls of the classroom.

All round efforts are being made to provide qualitative, value-based, activity oriented education in our school. Our striving for excellence in this direction has led us to believe that the interest and curiosity of a child has to be kept ever alive. My team of staff members and me do motivate our students so that they can reach the pinnacle of success and bring glory to the institution and themselves. Here we always encourage the students and try to develop a positive approach towards everything in life, so that these young adults leave school with all qualities to face the greater world.

We also make efforts to provide a conducive and congenial atmosphere in the school so that the activity of teaching and learning is done successfully.

Our School is the recipient of the International School Award from the British Council, which few schools have achieved. Our students are actively involved in the student-exchange programme. His Excellency, the Governor of West Bengal has been awarding our students for the last few years for their academic brilliance in the ICSE and ISC examination. We conduct regular counselling of the students and parents for their betterment. An awareness about various career opportunities is created among the senior students through Career Counselling.

We do make them realize that ‘With every experience, you alone are painting your own canvas, thought by thought, choice by choice'.
