Rampurhat College(Govt. Spons.), established in 1950 , has traversed a long path warding off the challenges of time and put its mark in the history of higher education in the area. It is affiliated to the University of Burdwan . The College has three shifts-Morning , Day and Evening .Honours & General subjects are taught in the day shift the morning shift only for the Arts general stream and the evening shift is exclusively for the Commerce , both Honours & General. The Post Graduate Course in Bengali on regular basis has been started from the session 2014-15 and the Post Graduate Courses in English and Sanskrit on regular basis will be opened this year. It has already been accredited by the NAAC and is preparing itself for facing the NAAC team for the second cycle of assessment .
Because of its Geographical proximity to the famous pilgrimage centre, Tarapith, and for its booming mining industry and brisk business in the locality, Rampurhat is well connected to the capital city of Kolkata, to the North Bengal and even the smaller states of the North East. It is also now connected to the farthest South of the country .
The college is situated in a pleasant and peaceful environment having an area of more than eleven acres . The Railway station is Rampurhat and it is only ten minutes walk from the college .The N.H-60 , bifurcating the town , is only one K.M away and regular and frequent bus services are available facilitating the communication for the students and guardians alike . The beautification of the college campus is under process .
With the process of time the role of teachers in society, in general, and the Principal/Teacher-in-Charge, in particular, has changed to a great extent. As this present society is an organization and information society, the role of the head of an institution / organization has metamorphosed into a co-ordinator motivator and leader who only co-ordinates motivates and leads from the front. Maintaining a congenial academic atmosphere and building up of an informal structure to support the formal structure is the main purpose so that the active involvement of all students, teaching and non-teaching staff is ensured .
