The library was established on April 01, 1858 as Anglo Vernacular Library, Konnagar. It was renamed as Konnagar Public Library & Free Reading Room perhaps in the year 1922 when it got registered as a society. It’s founder was Mahatma Shib Chandra Deb, a direct disciple of Henry Louis Vivian Dirogio, who dedicated his whole life for the total welfare of Konnagar. The library was conferred with status of a Town Library in 1962.
