The library was sponsored by Govt. of W.B. in 1982 as Islampur Town Library as per G.O. No.87 – Edn (S.E.) dt. 23/02/82. Sri Dilip Chowdhury, then S.D.O of Islampur Sub-Division, was the founder & pioneer of the library . The Library building (Ground & 1^st Floor) is situated in an area more than 4000 Sq.ft. including a seminar hall for the public. As busiest social institution of the town the library serves more than thousand people of this area.
