Government Training College, Hooghly was established in the year 1955 A.D. Our institution started its journey as Normal School or Hooghly Training School for under-graduate English medium teachers in 1856 A.D. Eminent academician and thinker of nineteenth century Sri Bhudev Mukhapadhyaya was appointed as the first Headmaster of this Hooghly Normal School. In the historic march, the Normal School System was abolished and upgraded to Training College for graduate secondary teachers. Since then Govt. training College, Hooghly is functioning as teachers' training college which is under auspices under Department of Higher Education, Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Government of West Bengal, recognised by NCTE from 1995-96 to 200 (vide order no. - ERC/WBS. V/10/06/4769, dated December 08,2006), during the year 200-2001 (vide order no. - F.7-13/2000-ERC/828, dated 05.04.2000) and since 2001- 2002 ( vide order no. - ERC/7-16/2001/295, dated January 25, 2001) and affliated to The University of Burdwan since 1960.
Govt. Training College, Hooghly situaded in the town Hooghly, close to the city of Chinsurah, Dist- Hooghly, West Bengal, India on the Holy river Bhagirathi has a rich heritage, promising human and material resources at present and a bright as well assured future. Humble services of this college to the nation needs all around cooperation, proper evaluation and constant encouragement. The college deserves these and is destined to shine in the golden letters.
