The library was established on 18th February, 1946. Some young people of this area namely Paresh Bandhyopadhyay, Tapas Chattopadhyaya, Nimai Dutta wanted to have a place where they can meet after school to share their knowledge and information with each other .

At first, the library was started with 8-10 copies of books in a wooden shelf in the house of Paresh Bandhyopadhyay and was named as ‘Brati Snagha’. Working hours of the library was 5-6 pm and monthly fee of the library was ‘2 Ana’.

In 1958 the library was registered and got 100 rupees from the Government to buy some books. From 1958, Municipality started to give financial help of Rs. 60 per month. In April,1970 5 kantha land with a old room was bought in the name of the library.

The ‘Brati Sangha Pathagar’ was recognized as a Govt. registered Town Library in 1979. Now it has more than 10,000 books and 1500 members.
