Bodhicariya Senior Secondary School is the outcome of relentless efforts and selfless dedication towards the cause of the welfare of the underprivileged sections of the society on the part of Venerable Bimal Bhikkhu and the Most Venerable Late Chakma Rajguru Agra Bamsa Mahathera. At first, these renowned Buddhist monks established Shishu Koruna Sangha (A Children Welfare Society), a non-profit charitable organisation in 1986 at Kolkata in association with several social workers based in Kolkata. Under the aegis of this children welfare society, Bodhicariya School came to be.

Shishu Koruna Sangha with the view to fulfil its philanthropic objectives started Bodhicariya School on 15th November, 1990 with its first batch of 30 children. Gradually Shishu Koruna Sangha began to have significant impact in the progress of society by educating the children - the future of the nation - and by imparting value based modern education to the underprivileged children especially the tribal children of North East India and West Bengal.

Today, with rapid urbanisation going on as part of the Mega City Project in Kolkata, Bodhicariya School today finds itself located at the heart of an emerging economic hub of the city. The school currently has more than 1500 students on its rolls and provides quality education at low cost. The students mainly comprise children from the nearby locality and tribal children of North East India. Bodhicariya Senior Secondary School is affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi and boasts of an excellent academic record.
