AT + P.O. – BELDA, DIST. – PASCHIM MEDINIPUR PIN 721424, WEST BENGAL
There is an oft-quoted saying in the locality of Belda – "Belda could not dream of a college without Kedarnath Das". The day 16th August in the year 1963 is a conspicuous landmark amongst the people of Belda.
Through the untiring and selfless efforts of Kedarnath Das and N. G.Dutta, the then B.D.O., Narayangarh, Belda College was established on that day and Kedar babu became the first Founder Secretary of this institution. Belda Satyanarayana Mandir Committee and Deuli Sudhir Primary School Committee came forward to donate handsome money and land without which this institution of higher education would never have seen the light of the day.
The College is situated in a picturesque site amid the conducive atmosphere of learning. It is away from the din and bustle of the town life. The scenery of bounteous nature, the open face of the blue vault of heaven, the spacious grassy playground add to the sublime beauty of the college. In the very first day of its inception Kedarnath Das said in his speech "I have just been able to plant a little sapling for the dissemination of education and it has the potentiality of growing into a big tree with full blossom if nourished properly and timely in the years to come".
Education is the initiation of self-revelation. It is the elixir and touch stone in this earth. Education gives scope for creativity and acts as bridge between the external world around us and inner would we carry within our body, mind and soul. What is the contribution of Indian heritage to the whole world through its own education system sustained over centuries barring the Anglo-Saxon system?
As Swami Vivekananda said, everyone born into this world has a bent; a direction towards which he must go through which he must live and what is true of the individual is equally true of the race. Each race, similarly has a peculiar bent, each race has a peculiar mission to fulfill in the life of the world. Political greatness or military power is never the mission of our race, it never was, and it never will be. But there has been the other mission given to us who is to conserve, to accumulate, as it were into a dynamo, all the spiritual energy of the race and that concentrated energy is to pour fourth in a deluge on the world whenever circumstances are propitious. Indians’ gift to the world is the light spiritual; Indians spiritual thought was not the hundreds of superstitions that have mushroomed here in the name of religion and spirituality but the life-giving principles. What we need through our current education is a strong physical basis for protection, preservation of Indian culture and spirituality and immediate economic progress through western science and technology is the need of the hour.
