Basirhat college, an institution with distinction, started its journey radiating the light of higher education on 16th November 1947. The institution stands on the bank of Ichhamoti, which flows by its ancient seat of learning and culture that witnessed the many souls of the soil rise to eminence.
In 1947, the institution was primarily housed at the Basirhat Town Hall and later on it was shifted to Late Khan Bahadur A.F.M Abdur Rahaman's residence at the heart of Basirhat Town. Later, Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, an eminent educationist and national leader of our country laid the foundation stone at the present location of the college.
The institution now functioning in three shifts - morning, day and evening, accommodating a huge number of students both boys and girls, coming from villages and towns like Taki, Hingalgunge, Jogeshgunj, Samsernagar, Katihat, Deganga, Haroa, Baduria, Berachampa etc to obtain their bachelor degree in Arts, Science and Commerce.
Basirhat College, a premier College of the District North 24 Parganas, was established in the year 1947. The College was initially affiliated to the University of Calcutta but with the formation of West Bengal State University in 2008, it is now affiliated to this new University. It stands on the bank of the river Ichhamoti in salubrious surroundings free from the din and bustle of urban life. The ambience is highly suited to serve the noble and expanding needs of higher education. The College celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1996 befitting its reputation as a center of excellence in North 24 Parganas. Its fabulously green environment with low pollution level is really a treasure to all.
The College has a history of being served by experienced and able administrator with active co-operation from highly qualified and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff. The educational and emotional needs of students, keeping in view of their economic backwardness and rural background, are well taken care of. Utmost care is taken to cater to the needs of every student's immediate and future professional requirements. We are dedicated to our pledge to work more responsibly, more positively and more resourcefully for the progress, betterment and refinement of our students, teachers, staff and community at large.
For UG courses
Students may take admission to 1st Year classes of the Under graduate Courses after qualifying the Higher Secondary or Equivalent examination with stipulated criteria set up by the College Admission Committee. A merit list for each subject is prepared strictly on the basis of Total Score Point.
Total Score Point (TSP) is generally calculated as :
TSP = Best four scores obtained by a student in his/ her 10+2 level exam + the marks of the subject in 10+2 level he/she opts as Honours.
Admission is conducted strictly on the basis of Merit List.
No quota except for SC, ST, OBC and PH.

For the application in this course a student must have passed the 10+2+3 system with Bengali Honours in his/her graduation. The final merit list is prepared strictly on the basis of merit.
