"We want that education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, the intellect is expanded, one can stand on one's our feet " Barlow Girls' High School of Malda district, since 1871 has been trying to carry out the construction efforts in educating the girls of this district. After overcoming various hurdles, this school was set up with tireless efforts of some renowned persons of this district in the name of Malda Girls' School & in 1879 it get the recognition of primary School from the British govt. Malda, during this period was under Bhagalpur Division & Mr. G.S Barlow was then very popular Commissioner & in his memory, the committee donated Rs.Five hundred & renamed the school in his name Barlow Girls' High School. Step by step the school was upgraded from primary level to H.S level in the years 1924 1929 & 1938 respectively. Classes of xii Sciences & Arts started in 1976. For the all round development & progress of the school, the contribution & whole hearted dedication of the Headmistresses, Assistant Headmistresses, teaching & non- teaching staffs, since 1939 cannot be erased from memory. And Lt. Uma Sarkar, the H.M (1939-1986) has become a legendary figure & her name dazzles in the memory of all who are connected with the school. The reputation, success of the school was mostly achieved by the tireless efforts of Lt. Uma Sarkar (H.M) & Renuka Lahiri (A.H.M) during the 20th century.

The library too has a huge stock of books on various topics. The school, is yet in need of adequate number of faculties & rooms to run more smoothly. Our aim is to carry on our level best efforts to teach them in the best possible manner by holding good example before them so that our students can acquire all qualities of head & heart..
