In the year 1891 Bansberia Public Library was established by Kshitindramohan Debroy who was the member of Hansweswari Raj family.

This library became famous at the time of Mr. Kumar Munindra Debroy. In the year 1925, first district conference was held in this Library. In the year 1932 children section was introduced in this library first time in Bengal. In the year 1934 first Library Science training class was held in this library. The library president Mr. Kumar Munindra Debroy attended the International Library Congress in the year 1935 in Spain on behalf of India.

In the year 1941 this Library celebrated Golden Jubilee. In the year 1951 a seminar was held in this library for its sixty years anniversary. Mr Acharya Kshiti mohan sen father of famous economist Mr.Amortyo Sen was the president of that seminar. The honourable Prime Minister Mr.Jawaharlal Nehru sent greetings to this library on that occasion.

Library building was constructed in the year 1957. In the year 1961 Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s birth centenary was celebrated in this library and a souvenir was published for this purpose. At last on 8th January 1981 the West Bengal Govt. recognized this library as town library. At present the library has 1800 General members & 613 members in Children section & total no. of books 31,249. Many readers come in this library for the research & other purposes.

The library has computer facility and carrier guidance unit. In the year 1991 the library celebrated its centenary and book fair was held for this purpose. Dr. Rama Ranjan Mukherjee vice chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University, The honourable Minister of Library dept. of West Bengal Govt. Mr. Saral Deb and famous novelist Mr. Sunil Gangopadhyay were present in this function. Various cultural function & seminar are held every year in this library.

At present this library is more than 120 years old. Library opens at 1 p.m. and closes at 8 p.m. except Sunday & every 2nd & 4th Saturday.
